Shop and Shout

Web Dashboard Application Re-design

CASE STUDY — 2020

—

Shop and Shout is an influencer marketing platform that helps brands connect and build relationships with micro and nano influencers. For true product reviews and posts across different social media such as Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, and eCommerce platforms. The platform allows the brand to search, analyze, monitor, manage and track their campaign and the influencers they have connected. The brand could utilize and target its audience by demographics, keywords, and interests. The company wants to create lasting connections between influencers and brands, which makes it easy to generate effective campaigns.

TIMELINE

May 2020 - October 2020

PROBLEM

— Many influencers couldn’t track their item shipment once the brand sends them the product. They don’t know when it arrives at their door.

— Brand users don’t get any notification whether the influencer has reviewed and posted their product on social media, and thus this had created a major problem with no communications in between.

— Shop and Shout team members get out of hands if there are too many requests from the influencers and the brands.

01. Poor shipment tracking

The influencer’s dashboard doesn’t show whether the brand sends the item to them or not. Sometimes it arrives or it never did. The only way to find out is through Shop and Shout’s team member to find out. Hence this has also become out of hand as influencers are increasing each month.

02. Platform isn’t user friendly

There were too many colours and CTA buttons. The text is too small to read and the information is stacked on top of each other. The product looked unfinished with paragraphs running till the end of the page.

03. Miscommunications between the influencers & brands

There isn’t a feature that allows communication between brands and influencers, which both parties have to reach out to Shop and Shout’s team members. Influencers never know when they are opt-in a campaign and brands have to check the influencer’s social media to track if they have posted their product and manually track how many reviews it has.

03. Features that both users don’t use in the platform

Brand users: “I have never used the “Influencer Insight” before and didn’t know it was there in the beginning and what is it for.”
Influencer users: “I didn’t notice that there was an “Influencer Academy“ or the “Ambassador program“ there. We weren’t aware of it”

RESEARCH

A great study on different competitors showed that Shop and Shout were missing some important features and the platform is behind in almost every aspect. As a result, we manage to do some user testing on Shop and Shout’s platform from both influencer and brand users. We gave a direction and asked the users to complete a specific flow. Through users’ feedbacks and surveys, it pointed out that there were massive pain points in the Shop and Shout’s platform.

— Brands:

  1. Users have trouble looking for an account dashboard.

  2. Have trouble finding the saved drafts.

  3. Steps to use the Influencer Search are not obvious.

  4. No sorting/filtering for populated campaign influencer lists.

  5. The form design and layout do not provide a smooth experience.

— Influencers:

  1. Users don't always get an email or notification that things are working in the background.

  2. Many influencers drop off when there is a limited campaign offered to them.

  3. Influencers didn't know that they will receive a tracking link from the brand.

  4. Confusion in navigating to the dashboard.

  5. The beginning of the create an account flow looks confusing to users.

— Structure, Exploration, and Iteration

We explored different platform designs and ways to improve both users’ experience from signing-up/logging-in, dashboard platform, profile setting, analytics reports, campaign status, and post reviews. We detailed every single flow and prioritize the important features that the user needs.

OUTCOME

It was a very exciting and fun project to work on that involves a lot of research, usability testing, and multiple rounds of iteration. Although the project was not feasible in the time span that we had, but the project provides real value and business processes.

As of 2021, most of the features that were part of this project (Redesigned dashboard, profile setting, account, and more) have been released or still in development and it may look different (like colours), as the company has a recently rebranded page.
